Happy May Hos and Bros!

So last month Timur set the bar pretty high and I’ve spent a lot of time in April thinking how I can top April’s playlist. If I’m honest – it’s not that there’s not a load of new tunes that have come out in the past month or two, but my finger’s been a little off the pulse lately and I think I’d struggle to put together the cutting edge playlist you’ve all come to expect. In light of that, this month I’ve gone for something a little bit different for your aural pleasure and put a bunch of my favourite tunes into a mix. I’m by no means a superstar DJ and lacking a bit in technical prowess, but hopefully there’s something here to give you a bit of a bounce.

It’s a mostly house vibe, with some newer tunes, some older tunes, and some questionable choices as far as flow goes but other than that I’ll let the music do the talking. Tracklisting is:

1 ) Party Guilt – The Royal We (Dinky Arp-A-Pella Mix)
2 ) Amirali – Beautiful World
3 ) Cream – Claptone
4 ) Maceo Plex – Under the Sheets
5 ) Maya Jane Coles – Hummingbird
6 ) Claude VonStroke – Vocal Chords
7 ) The xx – Islands
8 ) Oxia – Whole Life
9 ) Azari & III – Hungry for the Power (Jamie Jones Ridge Street Mix)
10 ) Smash TV – Steroids to Heaven
11 ) Presk & Cinnamon – Sweat (Doc Daneeka Remix)
12 ) Claude VonStroke – The Whistler (Audiofly remix)
13 ) Justin Martin – The Fugitive
14 ) Feist – My Moon My Man (Boys Noize Remix)

The mix was recorded in one take and unedited (quite obviously – I like to call it raw!). Sometimes mistakes can sometimes make a mix feel a bit more real…

As always let me know what you’re feeling this month and hit me up with any new track recommendations.

Back in Gibraltar Guy recorded the songs he’d written whilst ‘couch surfing’ thanks to the support of a few gents who believed in his music, and after promoting it at home, he returned to London to give things another go. A long way from “The Rock”, Valarino’s debut EP ‘Sleeping on a Couch’ brings you acoustic pop/rock with soulful melodies that speak of life, love, sand and sea. Full of warm sounds reminiscent of Mediterranean shores, the EP came to be when Guy first moved to London in spring of 2008.

Not alone in embarking on the journey to make it in London, Guy’s EP is easy for most to understand, with track ‘City Walls’ talking of a path much walked by at least half of London’s population. Whether in music or trying to stake your fortune in this industrious city we’re all ‘trying to make it on our own’.

Following his headline show on April 24th with renowned promoters Glasswerk at Surya in Kings Cross, Guy will be touring the UK. Tickets can be purchased online in advance www.seetickets.com/Event/GUY-VALARINO/Surya/619316

…”Guy Valarino is a master craftsman on stage..” – The Gibraltar Chronicle

…”What I would describe as a true legend in musical and compositional terms,..” – The Gibraltar Magazine

Britpop mainstay Blur’s Damon Albarn has heavily hinted that the band’s headlining gig at the Olympic Games’ closing ceremony in Hyde Park on August 12th will be their last.
When asked by the Guardian whether the group would continue to perform after the gig, Albarn exclaimed, “No, not really…I hope that’s the truth, that that’s how we end it.” Regarding the release of future albums, Albarn also remarked “No, I don’t think so.”

One-off single, This Is Under The Westway was recorded in just one take, according to Albarn and will (apparently) be their final release. However, in February, the band’s bass player, Alex James, had noted that Blur’s performance at the Brits would be their “last bow”. A day later they were revealed as the main act at the BT London Live concert in August. Thus, what the future truly holds for Blur is perhaps uncertain…

Their names are here n there nowadays, so there’s a good chance you might of already gotten the low down. A Leeds/Nottingham duo, these guys are good at what’s really “in” right now. a UK bass sound, standard, but produced with flow n energy, which us bloggers have to sit there n decipher. A lot is written bout them on their video info, which you head over to directly HERE. There’s also the Soundcloud for duo, Mak & Pasteman, and enjoy the video for their track Do the Same below. If I had posted this earlier, I could see it even ending up on the month’s playlist.

Happy Easter! Tom did a great job of last month’s playlist and inspired me to make this month’s just as good (if not better). This month’s playlist is made up of mostly new tracks that I’ve been feeling recently and is very bass heavy. There’s lot’s more that I wanted to include but I capped it at 14 tracks.

One track that I definitely would’ve included if it was on Grooveshark is Lee Stevens & The Beautiful People’s “Ridin’ High”, An absolute gem that I discovered on no other than our very own LMB. Fear not though as we’ve get plenty more to keep you entertained.

Starting off we’ve got Ambassadeurs’ “M.O.P.E”, a track I’ve been playing a little too much recently; perfect for the unseasonably good weather we’ve been having (check out the fan made video for it on Youtube too). We’ve also got Joe Goddard’s fantastic remix of Nneka’s “Shining Star” a track that’s seen heavy rotation on Radio 1. The new video to J. Cole ft. Missy Elliott’s “Nobody’s Perfect” went live recently and shows Missy at her best. We’ve also got a couple of LMB Playlist favourites this month with Nicolas Jaar remixing Shlohmo’s “Rained the Whole time” in a way only he knows how and Scuba with “July” from his new album.

Everything else pretty much follows in the same vein so just have a listen and let us know your thoughts. If you’ve only got time for 2 tracks, I’d suggest “M.O.P.E” and “Shining Star”……and “Nobody’s Perfect” and…..just listen to it all!

Much Love
